I’m a Southern girl at heart and heritage with parents and ancestors born in rural Georgia. But I was born up North and lived on a street with others that migrated from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and other southern locations deemed to be less desirable at the time. We lived off the land growing fruits and vegetables in the backyard. We canned near the end of summer for fresh eating during winter months plus my mother was a winemaker. We had an abundance of grapes from the vines growing in the backyard. I didn’t pick up that skill. But most of all I learned the importance of faith, family, and community. Attending church on Sunday was mandatory!
While living in Florida I discovered the power and calm of the ocean, the joy of coastal living, and what fresh, clean air, and the sea spray can do for your skin and attitude. As a soapmaker without a niche or direction, Island Fresh Skincare was defined from my morning strolls on the beach.
This blog is dedicated to the ancestors from whom I draw so much. I’ll share my soaping adventures, travel of which I haven’t done much lately, and love for coastal living. Did I mention I love to cook so there’ll be recipes too.
